Threefer porcelain offering dish

$95.00

This little beauty was fired naked except for the black underglaze details. The color is the Helmer kaolin in the porcelain reacting to the salt in the kiln, and flashing. Fired on the floor of the kiln, directly in the path of a literal million BTUs, I make use of every available cubic inch of space while allowing for the air-and-fireflows that create the honeyed yumminess of this piece.

Salt-fired porcelain makes this piece a natural fit for any tableau. The iridescence and orange-peel texture of the surface shows you the result of eighteen pounds of salt being introduced to the kiln as it hits 2000°F.

I make my work by literally tearing the clay and leaving as much of an organic edge as possible without it being "dangerware." As with all HighFired "accelerated fossils," actual c@nnabis sat!va leaves are pressed into the clay, left to dry, and burned out during the first firing. The resulting ash is collected for future use, details are highlighted with underglaze, more glaze is applied (or not) , and the piece is fired to 2300°F in one of three kilns: salt, wood, or reduction.

Approximately 3.25"h x 4" w. Top rack dishwasher safe.
